Around Narangba

Estate concrete, cleaned up

Narangba sits right beside Burpengary, so it's one of the closest suburbs we work in. Much of it is housing estates built over recent decades, which means a lot of driveways, paths and patios laid as each new house went up.

Concrete that goes in during a build often picks up cement splashes, mortar from the brickwork and grout haze, and nobody gets around to cleaning it off. Over time some slabs also show efflorescence, the white, chalky bloom that appears as moisture works its way through. Both are typical of what acid washing is used for.

Estate concrete is often coloured, too, and that's where care matters. An acid wash on coloured concrete can leave it lighter or patchy, so on those driveways we may suggest a clean and re-colour instead. We'd rather tell you that up front.

What we'll look at

Before we wash

On a Narangba driveway or path, these are the things that tell us whether acid washing suits it.

  • Residue or stain

Cement splashes and white bloom are what acid washing handles best. Tyre marks and oil are a different job.

  • The colour of the concrete

Coloured concrete can lighten or go blotchy. If yours is coloured, we'll talk through the options before anything else.

  • Old sealer

Many estate driveways were sealed when the house was built. Any sealer still on the surface has to be dealt with first.

  • Neighbouring surfaces

Render, brick, pavers and garden edges sit right against most estate driveways. Some of those don't suit an acid wash, so we look at the edges as well as the slab.

Common questions

Asked in Narangba

Anything not covered here, call 0438 708 830 and ask.

Why is there white powder coming up on my Narangba concrete?

That's usually efflorescence: salts carried to the surface as moisture moves through the concrete, left behind as a white, powdery bloom when it dries. Acid washing is one of the usual ways to remove it, though it can come back if moisture keeps working through. We'll look at it first.

Will acid washing damage my coloured driveway?

It can. Acid washing removes a thin layer of the surface, and on coloured concrete that can lighten the colour or leave it patchy. That's why we check what the concrete is before recommending it, and often suggest a clean and re-colour for coloured driveways instead.

Do you do acid washing in Narangba?

Yes. Narangba is right next door to our Burpengary base. Ring 0438 708 830 or send a photo of the concrete through the form, and we'll let you know whether acid washing suits it.
