Pebblecrete sealing in Burpengary & Moreton Bay

Pebblecrete sealing brings dull, grey pebblecrete back to life: the surface is cleaned and re-sealed so the colour of the stones comes back up. We do driveways, paths and pool surrounds. Based in Burpengary, working across Moreton Bay and into north Brisbane.

What's involved

Stones dull? Bring them up

Pebblecrete gets its rich, wet look from the sealer on it. As that sealer wears away, the stones lose their colour, dirt and mould settle between them, and the whole surface goes flat and grey.

  1. Step 1: Look and quote

We check the pebblecrete over: how worn the old sealer is, whether it's peeling or gone cloudy, and whether any stones have come loose. Then we quote.

  2. Step 2: Deep clean

The surface is pressure cleaned to get the dirt, moss and mould out from between the stones, and to strip old sealer that's already lifting.

  3. Step 3: Repair loose patches

Spots where stones are coming away are dealt with before sealing, so the seal goes over a sound surface.

  4. Step 4: Re-seal

Once it's dry, a sealer made for exposed aggregate goes on. It soaks into the surface, binds it, and brings the colour of the stones back up. The finish can be glossy or more natural.

  5. Step 5: Cure

It's left to cure before it's walked or driven on. We'll give you the timing for your job.

Pebblecrete, or exposed aggregate, is everywhere on houses built over the past few decades: driveways, front paths, patios and plenty of pool surrounds. Most of it hasn't been resealed in a long time, which is why so much of it looks grey and patchy rather than the colour it was laid.

Re-sealing suits pebblecrete that's sound but dull. You'll see it most where the sun hits hardest and in the shady, damp corners where mould grows. Around a pool, the sealer also helps with the chlorine, salt and constant wetting the surface puts up with. We cover that in more detail on the pool surround sealing page.

If big areas of stones are breaking away, or the slab is cracked right through, sealing on its own won't fix it. We'll point those spots out when we look at it.

Common questions

Pebblecrete sealing, straight answers

Anything not covered here, call 0438 708 830 and ask.

Why does my pebblecrete driveway look dull and grey?

Usually because the old sealer has worn off and the surface has picked up dirt and mould. The sealer is what gives pebblecrete its wet, rich colour, and once it's gone the stones look flat. A clean and re-seal brings it back up.

Will sealing stop the stones coming loose in my pebblecrete?

It helps, but it won't glue back stones that have already come out. Sealer binds the surface and keeps water out from around the stones, which slows the loosening down. Patches that are already breaking away may need repairing first.

Should I get a gloss or matte finish on my pebblecrete?

Mostly it comes down to taste. A gloss finish gives the wet look and the strongest stone colour; a lower sheen looks more natural. Gloss can be slipperier when wet, which matters more around a pool than on a driveway.

Can you reseal pebblecrete around a pool?

Yes, pool surrounds are one of the areas we seal. The surface is cleaned, the edges around the coping and fencing are worked around carefully, and the finish is chosen with wet feet in mind.

Can pebblecrete be cleaned without sealing it?

It can, but it won't look much better for long. A clean lifts the dirt and mould, but without a sealer the stones stay dull and the surface soaks up stains again quickly. The clean is the preparation; the seal is what brings the colour back.
